Travel Information

Nootka Sound Resort is just 10 minutes by boat from her sister resort and campground at Moutcha Bay. You can drive to Moutcha Bay Resort and launch your boat or we can arrange to pick you up by boat and bring you to Nootka Sound Resort. The closest fixed-wing airport is in Campbell River (YBL). Westjet services Comox Airport (YQQ) and is just 35 minutes beyond of Campbell River. Both airports have rental cars available or we can arrange a shuttle for you.

Most visitors arrive on Vancouver Island by ferry. From Vancouver, ferry trips run about an hour and a half, and YES, you can make a reservation. Depart from either the Tsawwassen Terminal (Vancouver) to Duke Point (Nanaimo); or from Horseshoe Bay (Vancouver) to Departure Bay (Nanaimo).

Once on the Island, you have two choices of highways northbound. Highway 19, the inland Island Highway route takes you directly to Campbell River and will take about 1.5 hours. For a more scenic drive, follow the picturesque 19A Oceanside route as it winds up the east coast of central Vancouver Island. Small beach resort communities and plenty of attractions to stop at make this well worth the 2.5 hour journey.

Upon arriving in Campbell River you will head west on Highway 28 towards Gold River. Hwy 28 meanders along lake and mountain sides for about 91 kms (57 miles) through part of scenic Strathcona Park. This is considered one of the most spectacular drives on Vancouver Island, and takes approximately 1.5 hours. As you enter Gold River, drive straight through the main intersection (a tourist info booth will be on the right hand side of the road) and follow the signs towards the community of Tahsis on the Head Bay Forest Road. Follow the high grade gravel road for approximentaly 45 minutes until you reach the turn off to Moutcha Bay.
